August 9, 2023 – Kane County Special Committee Holds Planning Workshop About Government Center Master Plan
The Kane County Board convened a special Committee of the Whole workshop at Eagle Brook Country Club on August 9, 2023, for a comprehensive meeting that delved into the details of five proposed site scenarios within the county’s forthcoming Master Plan. Wight & Co., the architectural firm hired to develop the plan for $800,000, has been working on the project since March of this year. Each of the five sites was evaluated using the same criteria and was issued a Technical Score.
The five site scenarios are posted on the left and are as follows:
Option A Fabyan and Raddent Road site received the highest technical score of the five locations at an estimated cost of $90,000,000.
Option B Peck Road and Route 38 Judicial Center site would be located east of Peck Road and north of Route 38.
Options C1, C2, and C3 are located at the current government center in Geneva on Route 31. Option C1 renovates Building A and the Board Room and adds a 4-story addition. Option C2 renovates Building A, replaces the Board Room, and adds a 4-story addition. Option C3 replaces Building A and the Board Room with a new 4-story building. All three options entail demolishing the other buildings on the property except for building G, which would be either preserved or relocated. Option C3 received the highest technical score of the three at the least cost, $102,000,000.
It is unknown when the Adoption of the Master Plan will be. It was supposed to be included in the October 10, 2023, at 9:45 AM County Board meeting but at the time of this writing is not on the agenda. All meetings occur at the Kane County Government Center: https://www.countyofkane.orgium service.
