THE SCHORY STORY
There will be no property tax increase to fund the Kane County government in 2024.
Kane County officials backed away from a tax hike in a final vote on Kane County Board Special Meeting November 21, 2023 to establish the 2024 budget. The board meeting started at 1:00 pm and the final vote around 6:30 pm was one of the longest board meetings to date.
Over the course of months, and months concerned citizens of Kane County regularly attended board meetings. and would give specific data points for the board members to reflect on. See example below.
County board member Bill Lenert led a change in course that will instead use some combination of $1.87 million in savings and/or interest income to balance the spending needs of the county.
This is a great example of when citizens engage in local government to influence change. This was a great Victory for Kane County citizens as the property tax portion had not been raised in 13 years!!
