Local Referendums on April 1, 2025 Ballot
Voters in Kane County will decide on several key ballot measures this April, ranging from tax increases for schools and fire protection to significant development projects and open space funding.
Kane County Sales Tax Increase for Public Safety
Kane County is proposing a 0.75% increase in its share of local sales tax to fund public safety. This would mean an additional $0.75 in tax for every $100 spent on retail purchases. Instead of reigning in spending, their solution is to raise taxes again. While officials claim the estimated $51 million in additional revenue will support public safety, the funds will go into the general fund rather than a dedicated account—leaving no guarantee or accountability for how the money is spent.
Campton Township Open Space Bonds
Campton Township is seeking approval to issue up to $17.2 million in bonds for acquiring, maintaining, and improving open space. A $500,000 home will pay an additional $30 a month in property taxes.
Campton Township Cemetery Tax Increase
Voters will decide whether to increase the property tax rate for the Campton Township Cemetery Association by 0.0073%. This would amount to an additional $7.30 per $100,000 of taxable property value.
Ella Johnson Library Expansion
The Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library District is asking for $15 million in bonds to construct a new library in Pingree Grove, equip it, and upgrade electronic data storage.
Kaneland School District 302 Facility Improvements
Kaneland Community Unit School District 302 is seeking approval for $140.27 million in bonds to repair and upgrade school facilities, including mechanical systems, playgrounds, and athletic facilities, and build a new field house.
Kaneville Fire Protection District Tax Increase
A proposed increase in the property tax rate for the Kaneville Fire Protection District would raise the levy to 0.80168%, supporting fire protection and ambulance services.
Sycamore School District Board Election Changes
Sycamore Community Unit School District 427 voters will decide whether board members should be elected at large without residency restrictions within the district.
Village of Sugar Grove Development Reversal
A petition-driven referendum will ask Sugar Grove voters whether to reverse approval of “The Grove” development, a project planned near I-88 and Route 47.
Voters will have the final say on these measures at the ballot box on April 1.
